Frequently Asked questions

Do I need an appointment? Why can't i just pop in?
Yes, you need to make an appointment which is done via the booking page on this website. Due to security and staffing we need to have allowed enough time to inspect and document each item that is being valued and taken into our care. We provide the highest level of personal service and confidentiality in a private office.
How can I book an appointment?
Booking is simple and can be done through our website. Just go to the appointment page, select your service, and follow the prompts to complete your reservation. Every booking requires a $50.00 deposit, this is charged to secure your selected appointment time. This deposit is deducted from the total cost of the service you require. You will receive reminders regarding your appointment the day before and confirmation at the time of making the booking. If you have multiple items and would like an indication of the cost before hand, please send an email with your details, photos of the items and how many. Also the reason for the valuations and we will get back to you with in 48 hours. perthjewelleryvaluations@outlook.com
What is your cancellation policy?
We understand that plans can change. For details on how to cancel or change a booking and information on any potential fees, please refer to our booking portal. Changes can be made up to 24 hours prior. Missed appointments or appointments cancelled with in 24 hours forfeit the deposit.
Why is it necessary to leave my jewellery with you ?
Every item of jewellery that we value has to be inspected, cleaned, tested, researched, photographed and itemised to form the documents. Turn around time is about 14 to 21 days, depending on the current work load.
Why should i use a registered ncjv valuer?
Only members of the National Council of Jewellery Valuers are entitled to call themselves an NCJV Registered Valuer™. This means they are experts in their profession and have completed extensive training in gemmology, diamond grading and valuing, along with a commitment to ongoing professional development and insurance.Valuation is an exacting and demanding process that requires training and extensive experience.Qualifications in jewellery valuation are not required under Australian law, so there is no guarantee that valuers who are not NCJV members have received professional training.
Do you value lab grown diamonds?
Yes, we can provide a valuation for LAB GROWN DIAMONDS. Be aware that they have steadly come down in price and are about 80% less than what they were 5 years ago. A current valuation will reflect this change in the market value. Please bring your original receipt and stone identification report you received when the item was purchased. Cost to value a ring with 1 to 3 stones is $250.
Verbal valuations ?
We can not provide VERBAL VALUATIONS or BALL PARK pricing. It is like asking a Doctor to see you with out paying for his time, training and expertise. Upon seeing the item you would like appraised, if we feel that it is not worth a terrible lot, we might suggest not going ahead with the formal valuation to save time and costs.
Can we wait while you do the valuation?
We can offer this service with prior agreement. Cost $800 for the first item, allow 2 hours. Each additional item is $400.
Expert witness for court actions ?
Depending on availability and location. $800 first hour, $400 each hour after that, minimum 4 hour block.
Home visits, off site visits ?
Depending on availability and the location. We can attend Saftey Deposit Boxes locations in the CBD and Solicitors offices if required. First hour is $3000 to set up testing equipment, $400 per hour after. Reports and valuations are an additional cost. Please contact the office to discuss your requirements and if we are able to help.

How to prepare for your appointment.

This checklist is designed with your best interests in mind—to help you prepare effectively, ensure a smooth and efficient process, and achieve the most accurate valuation possible. Items: Bring all the items you want valued. We always suggest that if you are unsure, bring the items with you and we can go over the items at your appointment. Some items might not warrant having a valuation completed and if we feel this is the case we will let you know and you can decide. Packaging and accessories: Include any original packaging, boxes and warranties, Diamond certificates and receipts if you have them. For branded items, such as Tiffiany & Co or Cartier the original box and documentation can influence the value of the item. Receipts: If available, bring original purchase receipts or invoices. This documentation can help verify authenticity and provide insight into the original value. As some items increase more than others once an item retires and becomes harder to source. Previous Reports Documents: If you have prior reports such as valuations or any associated certification documents, for example, GIA or IGI stone certificates. These relate to the quality and authenticity of the stones. They provide valuable context and can assist the valuer in understanding the history. Previous valuations can cast light on the journey of antique items that we have been asked to value. Provenance Documentation: This is useful for Antique Jewellery, If the item has a known history or provenance, bring any documentation that supports this, such as letters, certificates, or historical records. Information about any repairs or design changes that have been done over the years paint a picture and help the appraiser formulate the report and value of the item. Reason for your Valuation: Consider what you hope to achieve from your appraisal report and talk to your valuer if you need help or advice on your appraisal. Are you looking to sell the item or is it for Insurance? Family Court Divorce Proceedings: If you have to have your jewellery appraised for a Family Court matter please contact us at least 2 months before any court dates so that we have time. You can arrange this directly once you know what items need valuing, you don't need the Lawyer to arrange this and it will save costs. Questions and Concerns: Prepare a list of questions you may have regarding the valuation process, costs or care of your jewellery, we will be happy to go over these with you. We offer a phone consultaion which is 15 minutes, this can be booked online and costs $50. If you are not sure where to start or have a large number of items and would like some guidance. We find this works well for country clients so they can plan the trip to Perth.
